Bermuda Gas will be giving away $50,000 in appliances to customers who switch from electric to propane gas next week.

The Great $50,000 Gas Appliance Giveaway, which will be held at Bermuda Gas showroom in Church Street from Monday November 1 to Friday November 5, will reward the first 10 customers who come in every day and become new propane customers with $1,000 each towards the cost of a new gas appliance.

Customers can choose from a new range, dryer or tankless water heater, as well as built-in barbecues. All they have to pay is a flat $200 installation fee and for any propane cylinders.

Customers pay the difference for any appliance that costs more than $1,000.

Bermuda Gas showroom manager David DeSilva said the giveaway was the first of its kind in a bid to promote propane as a cleaner and more cost effective energy solution.

Forming part of a bigger awareness campaign launched by the company in May, Mr. DeSilva anticipates a lot of interest as householders consider changing their existing appliances from electric to gas and hopes it will help to educate them about the benefits of propane.

“Basically the promotion is that if someone who comes into the showroom who is an existing or new Bermuda Gas customer and commits to switching to a gas appliance we will give them $1,000 towards the purchase of that appliance,” he said.

“I think it is going to generate a fair amount of interest, particularly in the current economic climate.”

Damon Wade, executive vice-president and general manager of Bermuda Gas, who has been driving the campaign, said: “For the last couple of months, I have been talking about how you can save money and the environment by using the clean-burning, economical power of propane.

“Talk is one thing,” he said. “Action is another. To demonstrate our commitment to propane, we have decided to do something big.”

Bermuda Gas has a number of activities planned for the future, including its annual Christmas promotion next month, its consumer appreciation week, an Expo supporting Age Concern at CedarBridge Academy on November 13, where it will be providing the barbecues for the chefs, and a new product line in the New Year.
